Halloween Fortune Telling


Halloween has always been considered a good time to tell fortunes due to the closeness of the spirit world to the real world at this time of year.

It's great fun (and traditional) to play with ouija boards, tarot cards and have your fortune told, but there are also a number of simple old customs you can carry out as well to try and foresee what will happen in the year ahead.

To bring yourself good fortune you can try the following:

Play Snap Apple.
Tie an apple onto a piece of string and suspend it from the ceiling. Start it swinging in front of the first player who must have their hands tied behind their backs. The player must then try and take a bite out of the apple Those that do will have good luck over the coming year.
There is a more dangerous version of this game which we do NOT recommend where an apple and a lit candle are tied to opposite ends of a long stick. The stick is then suspended at its centre point to the ceiling. When the stick is spun the players have to brave the possibility of getting burnt while they try to bite the apple!

Play Three Luggies
Take three identical bowls and fill one with fresh water, one with dirty water and leave one empty. Arrange them on a table and blindfold the first player. They must dip their hands into one of the bowls. If the choose the clean water filled bowl they will have good luck, if they choose the dirty water, they will have mixed luck, but if they choose the empty one they will have bad luck. The bowls must be swapped around before each player starts their go.

Apple Pips
Cut an apple in half lengthwise and take the left hand piece. Count how many seeds are in it. Your luck is dependant on the number of seeds as follows:
One seed - you will have the same luck as you did last year
Two seeds - you will be lucky in love
Three seeds - you will receive a lot of money
Four seeds - you will go on a long trip
Five seeds - you will gain happiness at work
Six seeds - you will be blessed with good health
Seven seeds or more - you will be blessed with many good things throughout your life
